Joseph Edward Carey Sr., age 66, of Wylliesburg went to be with the Lord on Friday December 16th while doing what he loved most – helping others in need. Born January 13, 1956, Joe lived a life dedicated to serving others. In addition to his 40+ years of service as a law enforcement officer, Joe served his community in many other ways to include as an active member of the Charlotte County Rescue Squad and Bacon District Fire Department. Joe served for eight years on the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors, was a member of the local masonic lodge, and was a member of Wylliesburg Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Life-long supporter of the FFA, Joe loved spending time on his farm enjoying all of nature’s beauties.
Beloved in the communities in which he worked and lived, Joe never met a stranger and quickly befriended anyone with whom he crossed paths. Within minutes you were sure to hear about his family, especially his beautiful granddaughters. Whether a stray animal or a fellow man in need, Joe never hesitated to offer his help.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Carey and Corrina Inge, and baby brother Charles Harvey. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Beverly; sons Joey, Matthew (Jessica), and Jonathan (Brittany); granddaughters Madison and Bayleigh; brother Van; and many extended family members and friends.
The many tributes to his life serve as proof of how much Joe meant to the people of our community and for his donations of time, money, and energy to make this locality a better place to live. Though his passing leaves a significant hole in all of our lives, we will hold dear to the memories and be forever grateful for the incredible life he lived.
