Marvin’s favorite hobbies were hunting, golf, and being a proud member of the Hokie Nation. Marvin was a tireless worker and supporter of the University. He was a member of the Gordon Bowman Society, the Ut Proism Society, and a life time member of the Virginia Tech Monogram Club. He served as past chairman of the President’s Council, member of the Board of Directors for the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund, and president of the Southside Hokie Club. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice Davis Crutchfield, their daughter, Carol Ann Crutchfield Booth and her husband, Hunter; their son, Steven Lloyd Crutchfield and his wife, Virginia, and his precious grandchildren, Thomas Booth, Sarah Anne Booth, Aaron Crutchfield, and Conner Crutchfield. He is also survived by his loving mother, Charlotte Crutchfield, his brother, Wade Crutchfield and his wife, Connie. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Social Hall in Chase City from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Monday, May 17 and at the residence at all other times. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Brandon Ives officiating. Interment will follow in LaCrosse Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to express their special appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Community Memorial Oncology Clinic and to Joanna and all of the CMH Hospice care providers for the kindness and compassion they have show Marvin and Janice in this stressful time. Carol Ann- Thank you for the information about you father. Eunice told me also. We all face the end at some point and while sad, what is important is what goes on from the start to the end. That is what lives on and you have the luxury of having such a strong, caring, giving and faithful father. Eunice was telling me the fun and good times they enjoyed with him as a student at Tech. They would see him after games from time to time, share a meal and his enjoyable company. As Eunice said, he was alway so plesant and such a fine person! To sum it up, her was a 5 start Crutchfield! With Sympathy, Stuart

Marvin and I met on the 30 yd line during a 1961 football game. After tackling Marvin I told him that "that's how it's done"-big mistake. The next time I ran the ball, Marvin introduced me to his version of a freight train. As I struggled to my feet he leaned close and said "thanks for the lesson". I've followed Marvin's life through the years via articles in the county newspaper and always found myself thinking: that's how it's done-thanks for the lesson Marvin. Best Wishes, Marvin Chewning
