Doris Madeline Womack Cox, 72, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on March 25, 2024 . She was born on October 3, 1951, in Clover, Virginia to Johnnie Henry and Mary Estelle Womack Martin. Ms. Cox was a 23-year Air Force wife and mother of two. She worked outside the home at the various Bases where they were stationed as a warehouse manager, cashier’s cage supervisor, a bank teller, and for The Starts and Stripes bookstore. She traveled all over the world raising her family and supporting her husband of 53 years during his Air Force career and after by keeping the household running and loving him dearly. They were each other’s love of their life. Doris loved her family and her church family by always making time for them and giving of herself in whatever way was possible. She was a wonderful listener, and she made a person feel important in the listening. She loved God and studied his word often. One of her favorite books was Ephesians and she would be pleased to remind you of these words: “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8-9 Doris leaves behind her husband, Phillip McKinley Cox. her daughter, Sharon Melissa Cox Wade (Stephen) and her son, Benjamin Mathew Cox (Tracy). Her grandchildren, Elle Cox, April Cox, Charley Wade, Stephanie Wade, and Leland Wade. She also leaves behind her mother, Mary Estelle Lawson and her sister, Joan Elizabeth Glover (Mike) and her brother, Johnny Rocky Womack. Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church at 10077 Old Cox Road Chase City, VA 23924 with burial afterwards in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The officiant is Reverand Grover Cleveland. The pall bearers are Ben Cox, Gary Cox, Paul Cox, Jeff Cox, Rocky Womack, and Mike Glover. Honorary pall bearers are Stephen and Leland Wade. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church’s Cemetery Fund.
