Jason Ryan Powell, 29 of Raleigh, NC passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019.  Jason was born August 22, 1989 to Jalene Newton Adams of Chase City, and Mark Owen Powell of Raleigh, North Carolina.   He is survived by both loving parents, brothers, Travis Ray Adams and Tanner Ray Adams of Drakes Branch, sister, Elizabeth Powell of Saxe,  and step sister, Vanessa Waddell. Surviving grandparents are Helen Pennington Newton of Chase City, and Harvey and Deanna Powell of Wylliesburg.  He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Harvey James Newton, Jr. of Chase City, and grandmother, Mary Sue Powell.  Surviving aunts and uncles, Ronnie and Lisa Newton and Mark and Gail Dalton, all of Chase City, and Kathy and Leonard Bates of Florida.  Jason had numerous cousins and an abundance of friends, especially Michael Taylor whom he loved like a brother. Jason was a United States Marine and a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College.  Jason was known for his larger than life personality and effortlessly being the center of attention. He had an uncanny ability to make friends anywhere he went.  It is impossible to capture a person’s personality in an obituary, but the outpouring of sadness and support on social media has been a true testament to the mark he is leaving in this world. A memorial service for family and friends will be held, Sunday April 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Service in Chase City. A private service will be held at a later date to bury his cremains on the family farm in Chase City.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Healing Transitions, 1251 Goode Street, Raleigh, North Carolina 27603. Wood Funeral Service, of Chase City, is serving the family. Condolences may be expressed at www.woodfuneralservice.com
