Mary Rachel McKinney, Kirby, Caknipe, age 86, passed away May 6, 2025. Rachel was a people person; she loved everyone and never met a stranger. She loved dressing up as Mrs. Santa Claus & going to the Music House with Hugh in Keysville, VA., handing out gifts & toys to the kids there. Loved her flowers & her church, making sure there were fresh flowers there every Sunday. She always carried toys in her bag & when she saw a child she would make sure she gave them one.

 

Rachel was born January 16, 1939 in Polk County, N. C.

She was the daughter of the late Fay & Pearl (Dellinger) McKinney. Rachel was married to her first husband, Garland Stanly Kirby, for 24 years, then married her second husband, John William Caknipe, they were married for 9 years.

 

She is also preceded in death by her step-son, John Caknipe, Jr.; siblings, Jackie Page, Jimmy, & Lucille McKinney, Howard & Audrey Mcinney, David McKinney, Arlene McKinney Wootton (Roy). As well as her dear friend and partner, Hugh Lankford.

 

Surviving are her sisters, Ann Shelton (David), Betty Caknipe; brother, Billy McKinney (Barbara); step-daughter, Ann Caknipe; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday May 9, 2025 at Woodland Mausoleum.

 

The family would like thank the Chase City Health & Rehab. Center for all their loving care & hard work caring for Rachel and thanks to her “special / best friend” Lois Gwaltney (she loved you dearly). God Bless you all for your visits, care, cards, gifts & love etc. you showed her.
